Prayer Needs: December 03, 2006 > Week of 12/4/06

From the Desk of Jill Keenon, Operations Director:

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I happily decorated for Christmas, cleaned the garage and joyfully accepted a washing machine from my daughter and her husband only one day after ours broke. Today, we met our youngest daughter's boyfriend's parents and enjoyed that, then our daughter hung out with Jill, and we went to model homes near our house.

All this was fun, so what I would like to know is, why am I all of a sudden crabbier than a jilted woman on Valentine’s Day? What causes fluctuations like this in mood?

This is exactly why God tells us we are not to believe that what is seen is real, but the unseen is reality. The spiritual life is what is real. Our body and soul and spirit are connected, but what is going on spiritually seems to be what runs the show. I think we need to be aware of what is going on and deal with the change in mood. I know for a fact I got selfish because I just want to not be around people, watch T.V. and not have to interact with anyone. Since this is not a possibility in my home, I become angry. What I'm going to do as soon as I finish writing this, is thank the Lord for all my blessings, pray honestly with Him, ask His forgiveness and a softened mood will appear as if by magic. God is so faithful!

COLOMA PLACE HOME
  • Sue is so relieved because she is out of her abusive home. She is utilizing the family atmosphere at the Dyer's home. She is interacting with the family and laughing and even dancing around. We need to explain a few details to her about the setting in the home and some may seem foreign to her simply because she has been in her own home running things like any mom and now will have some rules about who can come and go and so forth may be hard. Pray for her to understand and continue to take advantage of the healing that can be provided by the Dyer's care.
  • We are still meeting with individual board members to continue discussions about the Coloma Place Home and what all we should be doing with it. Pray for guidance and clear cut steps to take.
QUICK HOME
  • One of the young men in the home is really a struggle because he has been taught mediocrity and that someone else will finish the work he started: "My mom always said that was good enough when she did my homework with me!" What he failed to mention until the discussion was continued, was that he still got F's when the homework was done like that. If he cleans a bathroom or shovels snow he simply moves around for a long while doing nothing, hoping it will be acceptable. This is taxing on the Quicks because in every area of his life he needs to be prodded. Pray for him to see that pride in his work is a good thing.
KEENON HOME
  • Keep praying for the miracle for Melissa. God is bigger than her addictions and messed-up thinking. Pray for her salvation as well as her friends.
  • Margie is so different with Bonnie gone. I may have said it before but it is such a contrast. Pray for her to keep growing.
  • Joel is at Biola College seeing if that is where he will go in the fall. Pray for him to have guidance.
  • Pray for us as a family this Christmas. God only knows how we get through it! We love the whole business but it is a stress financially.
  • Please pray for the next two weeks as Jill, Hillary and Joel have finals and papers.
Paul and I are meeting individually with each board member couple to discuss the options ODFT is seeing as opportunities to minister with the many gifts (both physical and human) that God has bestowed on ODFT. We are not using all of them for the best possible outcome for the Lord yet, but we will. The ODFT Board has many decisions to make in the near future, please pray for them.

The ODFT Board members are: Paul Van Der Molen, Dennis and Jackie Bentz, Kevin Keenon, Jim and Diane McGovern, Ed and Nancy Fromer, Bob and Monique Hraback and Paul and I. There are literally hundreds of questions and hoops to jump through before a final plan can be agreed on.
