Prayer Needs: October 29, 2006 > Week of 10/23/06

From the Desk of Jill Keenon, Operations Director:

My wonderful wife, Jill, is hard at it and is still working for the good of others. Her nursing program will put her in another place to use gifts that God has given her.

This morning, Keano, my grandson and I were doing his morning devotions, which taught us about our gifts when some thoughts came to me. Are you using your talents and gifts from God? Keano thought his only gift was playing basketball, but he is a very sensitive and kind young man. He loves his brothers and sister and wants to care for them. At his young age, he could not identify any of his gifts on his own.

Are you able to identify your gifts and talents? What is it that God has given you to do that you do as well or better than most people? Is it an aptitude for math? Not me! Is it a love for animals? Not me! Maybe you love people and teach, or help heal. Maybe your gift is discernment, and you can see problems that others don’t see. Can you lead others? Maybe you can’t, but you follow well and are very consistent in what you do. Some gifts carry blessings and some carry extra judgment from God. Some feel more like a plague than a gift. Two of my gifts are discernment and exhortation. What a drag! You say what do you mean? I thought you get to compliment people all day and just pass out the warm fuzzies? Well, for many that is their gift, but for some that is only part of the gift. For me it makes me look very grumpy and defensive.

I see many good things and get to compliment often and liberally, but what many people remember about me is when I have to do the other half of the "GIFT", or curse as I some times think of it. I have to bring up problems and try to help others identify how to correct them. Nobody likes a complainer. God gave me the "GIFT", so I have to use it regardless of my own discomfort and wanting to be liked and not thought of as the "Curmudgeon". Whatever your gift is, if you are not using it to the benefit of God and furthering His kingdom, you may want to take stock in your motives. All gifts are given for His good as well as ours. (1 Peter 4:10-11)

QUICK MORSE ST. HOME
  • Pat is progressing. The Quicks have many questions about his level of development and what his maturity level should be. It is difficult because he has had little exposure to different experiences and people. He has been thinking about his behavior and is taking stock of what he says and how it affects his life. This is a major step.
  • As always we pray for wisdom for the Quicks in regards to their level of wisdom and patience with children that have not matured at the normal rate and to have reasonable expectations.

COLOMA PL. HOME
  • Ravi and Ester Dyer, with their children will have the first lady move in within the week. She is a mature woman with different needs that we normally take care of but this is a dire situation.
  • Carmen has completely moved out and is living with her biological grand parents. This is not going well. Please pray for a better solution to her homelessness. I believe God is waiting for her to cooperate with Him and allowing these things to happen until she turns to Him.

KEENON HOME
  • Margie is back from her mission trip to Louisiana. She went with Tyndale Publishers, her employer. She is exhausted because not only did she work all week on demolishing homes, they drove there and back.
  • Margie also passed her driving permit test. Big things are moving forward in her life. Praise God.
  • Melissa’s car windshield was smashed with a sign post on Saturday night. This is the third time her window was broken in front of the house and once at a restaurant. Our van rear window has been broken with marbles. We have had our spare tire, on the van, stolen three times as well. I can’t tell you how many times we have had or driveway painted with words, and we have been egged, TP’d and paint-balled. Please pray that the vandalism stops. It is hard our teens, and it doesn’t help them feel very safe.
Please continue to prayer for the Board as they consider four out of six remaining options for ministry in the Coloma Pl. Home and other potential places.
